Our history began in the late 1960s and early 1970s, as a wave of Guyanese professionals, students, and families migrated to Manitoba. Recognizing a need for cultural belonging in their new Canadian home, a small group of visionary pioneers began meeting in living rooms and community halls across Winnipeg.

By 1978, the association was formally established. What started as informal "gaffing" sessions evolved into a structured organization dedicated to:

  • Helping newcomers navigate the harsh Manitoba winters and local job markets.

  • Advocating for the Guyanese community within the provincial multicultural landscape.

  • Ensuring the "Six Peoples" heritage was celebrated and passed down to the next generation.
