Members Since 1978

Our history began in the late 1960s and early 1970s, as a wave of Guyanese professionals, students, and families migrated to Manitoba. Recognizing a need for cultural belonging in their new Canadian home, a small group of visionary pioneers began meeting in living rooms and community halls across Winnipeg.

By 1978, the association was formally established. What started as informal "gaffing" sessions evolved into a structured organization dedicated to:

Helping newcomers navigate the harsh Manitoba winters and local job markets.
Advocating for the Guyanese community within the provincial multicultural landscape.
Ensuring the "Six Peoples" heritage was celebrated and passed down to the next generation.
